"The World's 50 Greatest Living Athletes," November 2017

Pari Dukovic, Photographer

"When the World's Greatest Living Athlete is also an off-the-court phenom in business, in movies, and increasingly in politics, the time allotted for a photo shoot is limited (it was 45-minutes from the frame to the last). But photographer Pari Dukovic nevertheless captured LeBron James in a timeless, almost deified image that shows the strength, fierceness, and regal nature of GQ’s November cover subject. One worthy of blowing up and framing like a piece of art (which we did)."
This portrait of Lebron James is a formal portrait. It is my favorite because the picture presents Lebron as the “King” of basketball. Not only is Lebron wearing a golden leaf crown, but his face is shining because of the golden light which makes him seem like a “heavenly king”. This communicates Lebron James as a very valuable, worthy, hard working player because he became so great at basketball that he deserved to be crowned king. I like the thought put into the setting to make him seem like a king because Lebron is one of the greatest basketball players of all time and he deserves to have one of the biggest and most ‘king-like’ names in basketball.
