Self Portrait VS Selfie

A selfie is a photograph that is taken by one's self typically with a smartphone. A self portrait is a portrait taken of an artist and is created by the same artist as well. While a selfie is taken with one's own hand and is usually on a smartphone, a self portrait is usually used with a more professional camera and is taken with a timer or camera activator button. A self portrait is also planned, while a selfie can be taken at any given moment with the click of a button.
I prefer the style of the selfie because it is more convenient and easier to take. While I can always pull out my phone and snap a quick selfie, taking a self portrait involves planing, a timer and many time a professional camera. Not to mention, taking selfies on designated apps with selfie- filters (example: snapchat) can create very cute pictures at the tap of. button with filters and editing already completed within the filter.
While I prefer selfies over self-portraits, I think that self portraits are more valuable because they are planned, better quality, and have better ideas and express the components of photography better. While most of the time selfies are quick and barely any thought is put in them, self portraits are well thought out and have more meaning behind them.
