Ethics in Fashion Photography
1. In the video they made her lips larger, her neck skinnier and taller, her eyes lower and bigger, her ears whiter, her hair darker puffier, her eyebrows bigger and her face skinnier to make her look un-humanly 'beautiful".
2. In the video they changed the model so she had a skinnier torso and neck, bigger eyes and eyebrows, smooth and glossier skin, bigger lips, smaller nostrils, longer and smaller legs, brighter hair, whiter and smoother skin and they changed the size of her bottom.
3. The changes made with photoshop on the computer were that they started with a model and took away her abs, smoothed and whiter skin, larger face features, thinner body, smaller chest and were able to turn her into a PIZZA! Photoshop is unreal!!
4. This is highly un-ethical and unacceptable because changing someones skin color, features and other details portrays an untruthful picture and is very offensive. When photo-shoppers change the way people look very dramatically, it can offend the models/etc. or the community because it gives the public a picture that is not true and too perfect which can motivate many people to dislike their bodies.
5. Ethically, there are many worse ways to change someone's skin color. For example, if you change a minorities' skin color it can be much more offensive than giving a white model a light tan. Although hanging ANY person's skin color is VERY offensive, the world has had a past of racism and discriminations towards people of color. For example, if a photo-shopper changed an African American's skin color to a caucasian skin color, it can be highly offensive because people are proud to be the color they are and changing someone's make up is un truthful and terribly wrong.
6. I think that changing the lighting of the photo is okay if it too dark or to light to see the subject, but I feel nothing else is appropriate.
7. While fashion photography is to advertise and show off different brands, photojournalism is for the art of photography. In fashion photography, photo editors edit the genetical and ethical makeup of people's looks while in photo journalism photo editors change the lighting, cropping, etc. While photojournalism is truthful, fashion photography is not.
8. Fashion photography is related to reality because you are advertising REAL products. This effects the ethical aspect of fashion photography because if you are changing people's skin color it doesn't show the model's true ethnicity. The photos are advertising real items, but not real colors. Photojournalism is related to reality because you are showing raw and true emotions, people, figures, items, etc. This doesn't affect ethnicity because you are showing the true pictures with no edits! :)
9. I think you showed us these videos as a warning because we need to be careful when photoshopping pictures and we need to know that editing photos very much is not right.
10. Women are much more shy, self-conscious and many times dislike their bodies because of what they see in magazines or online. Also, many more women models are photoshopped than men. When a woman sees a picture of Kim Kardashian, she immediately compares her body to the altered model. When a man sees a picture of a male model, yeah he will think about it but will not go crazy about not having a "perfect" body.
